Job Purpose / Overview
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple large-scale, complex IT and business change projects and programmes that enable the strategic objectives for Sizewell C (SZC).
The role holder will ensure delivery to agreed time, cost, and quality baselines while managing significant budgets, multi-vendor teams, and senior stakeholder relationships. Reporting to the SZC IT Programme Manager, the post holder will also provide leadership to Project Managers and oversee critical delivery workstreams that support the SZC Nuclear New Build programme.
Framework & Boundaries
The Senior Project Manager is given delegated authority to deliver large-scale programmes within approved budget, schedule, and scope tolerances, in line with SZC's governance, EDF Group IT standards, and nuclear regulatory requirements. The role holder will balance compliance obligations with pragmatic, outcome-focused delivery decisions in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.
Dimensions
The Senior Project Manager will oversee a portfolio consisting of multiple concurrent projects and programmes, each valued between £0.5m and £5m, with durations ranging from several months to multiple years. This role includes direct line management of 1 or more Project Managers and indirect oversight of delivery partner and supplier teams comprising 10 to 25 individuals. The Senior Project Manager will have delegated authority for managing project budgets up to agreed limits, with escalation procedures in place for higher-level approvals. Additionally, the role involves engagement with SZC senior leadership, EDF Group functions, Tier 1 suppliers, and regulators.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Strong knowledge of project and programme management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM, MSP).
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Proficient in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and other project planning tools.
- Strong financial acumen, including budget forecasting and cost control.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise applications, and digital transformation delivery.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Agile delivery methods.
- Understanding of ITIL service management and transition principles.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex IT-enabled change projects and programmes in regulated or safety-critical industries, ideally within large-scale infrastructure, construction, or engineering environments.
- Demonstrable experience managing budgets of up to £5m and leading multi-vendor, multi-discipline delivery teams across the full project lifecycle.
- Experience in project and programme management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM, MSP) with the ability to adapt methods to suit delivery needs.
- Strong financial management skills, including forecasting, cost control, and business case development.
- Experience overseeing supplier performance, contractual compliance, and commercial management.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders and governance boards.
Desirable
- Previous experience in the nuclear, energy, or major infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with EDF Group IT governance processes and standards.
- Experience in Agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Understanding of ITIL service management and transition principles.
- Experience with digital transformation projects involving enterprise applications, data platforms, or infrastructure modernisation.
