MRP Specialist / Materials Planner
- Retford, Nottinghamshire
- £22 - £25 per hour + PAYE
West Burton B Power Station (WBB), operated by West Burton Energy (WBE), is seeking an experienced interim specialist to provide immediate hands-on support with materials requirements planning (MRP) and procurement execution. This is an urgent requirement driven by the operational impact of a full site stock check which has revealed a significant MRP backlog requiring systematic triage and resolution.
The individual will work directly under the supervision and direction of the WBB Inventory Manager. Their primary focus is the sub-£5,000 K04 materials PR population - the highest volume, most time-intensive segment of the triage backlog. This frees the Inventory Manager to focus on higher-value decisions, engineering liaison, and strategic MRP improvement.
Day to day the individual will be expected to:
- MRP triage and PR actioning - work through MRP-generated purchase requisitions using the agreed triage process, assessing each material against stock levels, movement history, open reservations, and MRP settings before raising purchase orders
- Maintenance team engagement - liaise directly with the engineering and maintenance disciplines (EC&I, Mechanical, HSE, OPES) to validate open reservations, confirm material specifications, and ensure ordering activity is aligned with planned and reactive maintenance needs
- Problem stock investigation - investigate materials flagged as ghost PRs, stale reservations, or MRP anomalies, and work with the Inventory Manager to resolve or correct the underlying SAP data
- Supplier communication - request quotations by email, follow up on outstanding responses, and maintain clear correspondence records
- Data interrogation and reporting - work with large SAP exports (ME5A, MB51, MB25, ZMMBE, MD07) to identify trends, prioritise action, and report progress against the triage backlog to the Inventory Manager weekly
- Accounts payable and delivery liaison - liaise with the accounts payable team and the WBB inventory team on deliveries, goods receipt discrepancies, invoice queries, and any material receipt issues raised by the stores team
- MRP parameter review - identify and propose corrections to reorder points, safety stock levels, and planned delivery times where current settings are generating unnecessary or incorrect PRs
