Job Purpose / Overview

  • Join us as a Construction Design and Management (CDM) Advisor, contributing to complex construction topics at HPC and you'll be helping us to make sure we continue to deliver technical excellence for the project.Being part of Technical Directorate and working on a day-to-day basis on site with NNB's Construction Team, the JDO is responsible for site-based queries during construction, installation, and commissioning and facilitate closure of post-handover open points [PHOP] arising from site.

Principal Accountabilities

As a CDM-Advisor you will:

  • Regularly monitor, measure, analyse and review performance in implementing the requirements of the Standard.
  • Ensure information from all relevant Design Risk Registers, including Package DRRs and Integrated DRRs is assembled into a Master Design Risk Register.
  • Provide the Pre-Construction Information they receive from the Client or other Designers to the appropriate parties e.g. Principal Contractor, Contractors and other Designers. Where the Client is missing PCI or additional surveys are required, the Designers and/or CDMA need to inform the Client if they are not already aware. The CDMA must confirm arrangements are in place to manage health and safety information flow relating to design.
  • The CDMA shall prepare the Pre-Construction Information document for inclusion in the Invitation to Tender and update during the project and issue to relevant parties as required. The PCI is a live document, therefore it must be re-issued to relevant parties as and when it is updated.
  • Agree the format and content of the Health and Safety File documentation with the Programme Manager.

During the project the CDMA shall;

  • Engage with the Designers and the Principal Contractor to explain the expectations of the Health and Safety File.
  • Review the content of the Health and Safety File with the Designers after the Invitation to Tender review has been completed and after any design changes that impact on the health and safety of the design thereafter.
  • Open the Health and Safety File at the start of each package of work and agree a schedule for the delivery of the information with the Designers and the Principal Contractor.
  • Update the Health and Safety File as the project progresses through design development and the construction phase with information supplied by the Designers, Principal Contractor or Contractors.
  • Assess Designers and confirm that they have:
  • Eliminated hazards and reduced risks remaining in the design of the permanent and temporary works;
  • Complied with the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992; and
  • Provided information on the residual risks relating to construction, maintenance, cleaning and decommissioning.
  • Ensure that they have prepared a Design Risk Register for inclusion in the Invitation to Tender document.
  • Engage with the Designers to ensure that they have arrangements in place to monitor and satisfactorily close out any design changes that impact the health and safety of the design that arise during the construction phase.
  • Ensure the design to be reviewed on a regular basis and agree a review schedule with the designers.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

You will have good communication and presentation skills, being able to liaise with a variety of stakeholders across the wider business at various management levels from mid management up to director level.

You will need to:

  • Highly motivated and ability to motivate others
  • Be resilient, adaptable and have a willingness to learn and develop
  • Understand an individual level of knowledge and where to receive guidance
  • Be able to work and act autonomously
  • Be pragmatic and practical in your approach to developing solutions

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional qualifications and membership of a recognised construction related organisation (e.g. CIBSE, ICE, IEE, IMechE, IStructE, RIBA, etc.)
  • Validated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the field of Health and Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Member of ICE H&S Register, MaPS etc.)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements
  • Demonstrable, transferable skills within the field of CDM, Safety and Construction
  • Decision making and escalation ability for resolution of issues
  • Good communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of power station design (EPR or NPP) preferred
  • Strong influencer
