Ready to take the next step in your rail engineering career?

We're looking for 4 experienced Control Room Technicians to join a busy rail operation in Basingstoke. This is an excellent opportunity for a Rolling Stock Engineer or experienced rail technician looking to progress into a technically focused control room role.

You'll play a key role in supporting the customer's Control Room team while trains are in service, providing rapid technical support and remote fault diagnosis to help resolve performance issues and in-service failures.

This is a role where your technical knowledge can make a real difference - identifying issues, analysing live data and providing clear engineering solutions to keep the railway moving.

What will you be doing?

  • Work closely with customer Control Room staff to provide technical support during train service.
  • Manage and coordinate responses to in-service failures.
  • Monitor live ORBITA feeds and respond quickly to emerging issues and alerts.
  • Carry out remote investigations using ORBITA, OTMR, CCTV and other available systems.
  • Analyse faults and provide technicians or depot teams with detailed technical information and investigation packs.
  • Raise and manage work orders using the EAM system.
  • Coordinate activities relating to in-service failures and provide rapid technical support to operational teams.
  • Support planning activities and ensure accurate technical records are maintained.
  • Present clear and practical electrical/mechanical engineering solutions to the customer.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with a strong rail and rolling stock engineering background, who is confident analysing technical problems and communicating solutions in a time-critical environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering - desirable.
  • Strong EMU technical knowledge.
  • Previous rail experience, either in rolling stock maintenance or train riding.
  • Experience investigating and resolving technical faults.
  • Knowledge of ORBITA or similar rail monitoring systems.
  • Experience using computer-based asset management systems/EAM.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • A methodical approach with excellent attention to detail and record keeping.

Shift Pattern - Panama Roster

The role operates on a rotating Panama shift pattern, including days and nights:

  • 5 days: 07:00-19:00, followed by 5 days off.
  • 4 nights: 19:00-07:00, followed by 3 days off.
  • 5 days: 8.5-hour cover shift, followed by 4 days off.
  • 2 days: 07:00-19:00 + 3 nights: 19:00-07:00, followed by 4 days off.

Why apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity to move into a high-impact technical control room position, using your rolling stock knowledge in a role that combines fault diagnosis, live operational support, technical decision-making and customer interaction.

If you have the rail engineering experience and technical ability to diagnose problems, make decisions and keep trains moving, we want to hear from you.
