Overview
Working under the guidance of the Workstream Lead-accountable for the delivery of requirements of the Programme workstream that comprises a number of projects designed to strategically provide resilience into the programme, remove single point vulnerabilities, and ultimately accelerate mission.
The Waste Engineer will work closely with the Workstream Lead and Project Manager to support the waste management of projects identified by programme and in some instances to extend waste guidance post project close out.
This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on programme delivery within a fast-paced and challenging environment. The role is integral to accelerating mission objectives, requiring an individual who can deliver high quality outcomes at pace while managing competing priorities effectively.
Essential Requirements
* Significant experience working on nuclear waste management projects
within the site environment.
* Demonstrable plant-based experience, with a strong understanding of
operational challenges and interfaces within nuclear facilities.
* Thorough understanding of nuclear site waste management arrangements,
processes, routes, and governance requirements.
* Experience supporting project delivery through concept, design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
* Ability to challenge established approaches and identify pragmatic,
innovative waste solutions while maintaining compliance with safety,
environmental, and regulatory requirements.
* Strong understanding of waste hierarchy principles and opportunities for
waste minimisation, segregation, characterisation, treatment, and
disposal.
* Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and engaging
effectively with operations, engineering, waste management, and project
stakeholders.
* Ability to provide informed advice, drawing on site and plant experience to
influence project decisions and optimise waste outcomes.
* Strong communication and technical authoring skills, including the
production and review of waste management documentation and
technical justifications.
Desirable Requirements
* Previous experience supporting hazard reduction and resilience programmes.
* Familiarity with the nuclear site management arrangements, safety case
constraints, and the requirements associated with working under the
framework.
* Knowledge of radioactive waste packaging, transport, and disposability
assessment processes.
* Experience identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, challenge
convention, and deliver value through innovative waste management
strategies.
