We are recruiting a Production Manager to join a leading rail manufacturing organisation in Derby. This role is key to the safe and efficient delivery of production targets, ensuring trains are delivered on time, in a fully compliant, safe, and customer-ready condition.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing production operations, leading teams, and ensuring all safety, quality, and performance standards are consistently achieved.

This is a 37-hour per week position with a requirement to work alternating weekly shifts.

Morning Shift (8% shift allowance)

  • Monday to Thursday: 06:00 - 14:00
  • Friday: 06:00 - 11:00
  • PAYE: £28.05 per hour
  • Umbrella: £37.68 per hour

Afternoon Shift (16% shift allowance)

  • Monday to Thursday: 14:00 - 22:00
  • Friday: 11:00 - 18:00
  • PAYE: £30.14 per hour
  • Umbrella: £40.52 per hour

Overtime

Weekend overtime is available and paid at enhanced rates:

Saturday: +33% (PAYE: £37.31/hr | Umbrella: £50.25/hr)

Sunday: +50% (PAYE: £42.08/hr | Umbrella: £56.73/hr)

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

You'll be part of a large, well-known rail company managing the Maintenance Teams and ensuring that accountability for production is clearly defined and delegated. Managing organisational change in order to optimise working practices and thus ensure a productive workforce. You'll also be ensuring all Production meets the Safety and Quality requirements of internal standards, customer specifications and Network Rail standards.

  • Monitoring and controlling Production on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Identifying people requirements for budgeted fixed workload ensuring flexibility and high levels of productivity are achieved.
  • Monitoring working practices and environment to ensure that people and facilities meet the mandatory and/or statutory requirements.
  • Identifying training and other resource needs to facilitate production in the most effective way.
  • Ensuring work is performed in a safe, effective manner and in accordance with the H&S at Work Act, Rules and Regulations, Railway Group Standards and Alstom Policies and Procedures.
  • Reviewing work plans with Production Controllers to ensure daily production targets are met as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Maintaining good industrial relations within area of responsibility, implementing disciplinary procedures for any serious staff irregularities - maintain a well-disciplined work force.
  • Proactively identifying areas for improvement by personal check, analysis of trains incident reports and complaints, initiating action to ensure improvements.
  • Being responsible for ensuring IT systems are updated and where required concluded in relation to work done.
  • Encouraging continual professional development for staff within your areas of responsibility.
  • Being responsible for managing and prioritising the workload of each team in line with the traincare centre requirements which include:
  • Isolations
  • Validation of Service Orders completed by team members.
  • Reporting and maintaining progress of work.
  • Quality including the completion of In-Process and Final Inspections, and adherence with Local Quality System
  • Team Member Training needs
  • Discipline and managing for attendance 1st line

Candidate requirements:

We are highly interested if you have:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (desirable)
  • Man management experience of large groups of staff 10+
  • Experience in fleet and/or maintenance operations and planning workloads effectively.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant Traction and Rolling Stock.
  • An understanding of SAP and ability to use MS Office packages.
  • Knowledge of Rail industry IT systems, Ravers, Trust and Gemini.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience of maintenance management / service and delivery in the railway industry
  • Understanding of Railway Depot and Railway Industry Operations
