Hours: 37 hours per week - 7.4 hour days

Location: Whitehall, London (Hybrid1-3 days per week, minimum, on site, as required for Business needs)


Role information:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated team leader to manage a high-performing casework team in a fast-paced, policy-led environment. This role requires strong leadership, sound decision-making, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes while ensuring compliance with governance and legislative requirements.


Key Responsibilities
* Lead a Casework Team, with line management responsibility contingent workforce colleagues.
* Make autonomous, evidence-based decisions in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and operational guidance.
* Seek advice and guidance from colleagues, senior leaders and subject matter experts where appropriate.
* Ensure sensitive and personal information is handled in accordance with data protection legislation and organisational policies.
* Respond promptly and professionally to enquiries, ensuring individuals are treated with sensitivity, respect and fairness, and identifying where additional support such as translation or interpretation may be required.
* Analyse evidence thoroughly and request additional information from relevant stakeholders where necessary to support informed decision-making.
* Provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues and stakeholders, building positive working relationships to support operational objectives.
* Oversee the accurate recording and effective use of casework data, producing management information, performance reports and statistics to support operational planning and decision-making.
* Ensure compliance with governance, quality assurance and operational procedures across the team.
* Deputise for senior managers when required.
* Support the recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development of Caseworkers.
* Promote a positive team culture, with a strong focus on staff wellbeing, performance and continuous improvement.


Essential Experience


* Experience of working within Government, or in partnership with Government, in a fast-paced operational delivery environment.
* Proven experience of leading, managing and developing teams, with a strong focus on wellbeing, engagement and performance.
* Experience of building effective relationships and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives.
* Experience of applying policy, legislation or procedural guidance to make sound, evidence-based decisions.
* Experience of rules-based casework or operational decision-making.
* Experience of working in a high-volume, fast-paced operational environment.

Desirable Experience
* Experience of working within a policy-led environment.
* Experience of using management information and performance data to inform operational planning and service improvement.
* Experience of coaching, mentoring or developing colleagues.
* Knowledge of governance, quality assurance and compliance processes within an operational setting.
