Position: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Warrington
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Hybrid: 3 days in the office and 2 days home working
Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Projects
This role involves supporting the delivery of specialist mechanical engineering work across the full project lifecycle, from concept and FEED through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and operational phases within regulated nuclear environments.
You will contribute to the design and delivery of mechanical systems and processes, including handling systems, transfer equipment, and specialised process technologies used in controlled or high-active environments. Work will also include technical studies, documentation development, and supplier/subcontractor coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver and support mechanical engineering studies and project work
Contribute to design development from concept through to detailed design and implementation
Produce and review engineering outputs such as technical notes, calculations, flow diagrams, P&IDs, layouts, and specifications
Support mechanical handling and process system design, including transfer, milling, and compaction applications in controlled environments
Review technical documentation from suppliers and contractors
Work with internal engineering teams and external technical specialists
Support project delivery across construction, commissioning, operations, and decommissioning phases
Liaise with other sites and stakeholders, with occasional travel depending on project needs
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
2+ years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer
Experience in engineering design across FEED, detailed design, and delivery stages within nuclear or regulated industries
Knowledge of mechanical handling or process systems (including manufacture, testing, commissioning, and maintenance)
Experience working with contractors or supply chain stakeholders
Experience on Sellafield, AWE, UKAEA, UKNNL, or Magnox projects desirable
Additional
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to manage workload and work independently
Comfortable working across multiple project phases and technical teams
Must be eligible to work in the UK and meet security clearance requirements
