Job title: Senior Estimator
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Permanent
Location: London, Westminster
Hours of work: Mon to Fri - 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Competitive + car allowance


Purpose:
To produce accurate, competitive, and compliant cost estimates that support successful tender submissions, in line with the client's governance and quality procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure all company governance and approval processes are followed

  • Work with the Bid Manager to develop competitive, value-driven pricing strategies.

  • Agree methodologies and outputs with the Planner, Design Manager, and Bid Team.

  • Advise on cost-effective design solutions and prepare alternative pricing options.

  • Check and validate client quantities; arrange take-offs as required.

  • Build up estimates covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries, and risk.

  • Develop local labour and plant rates, ensuring compliance with relevant wage and working time regulations.

  • Liaise with Procurement to obtain, review, and select compliant supplier and subcontractor quotations.

  • Coordinate temporary works pricing with technical and planning teams.

  • Determine staff requirements, programmes, and costs in consultation with Bid and Operations Leads.

  • Identify and assess risk and opportunity items for inclusion in the tender.

  • Prepare final tender summaries, supporting documentation, and settlement adjustments.

  • Support post-tender clarifications and provide pricing handover to project and commercial teams.

  • Review feedback on unsuccessful bids to inform future improvements.

Additional Duties

  • Support collaborative working in line with Hochtief UK procedures and the Joint Relationship Management Plan.

  • Undertake any other duties aligned with the role and business needs, as directed by the Head of Bid Management.

Key Competencies & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and construction techniques.

  • Familiarity with procurement legislation and contract forms.

  • Commercial awareness and analytical skills.

  • Proficient in estimating software and Hochtief work-winning procedures.

  • Commitment to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.
