Job Description: | Purpose · This role will report to the Business Operations Manager to provide strategic, tactical and operational support, guidance, and advice on safety, health and wellbeing. · Act as the key advisor on Safety Health and Environment legislative and statutory compliance issues. · Lead and champion the development and delivery of the strategic approach for Safety, Health and Wellbeing in the programme. Accountabilities - Assess the impact of the appropriate and relevant Safety, Health and Wellbeing standards, HMG Functional Standards, and the HM Government Minimum Standards, and other related requirements on its programmes, including projects, ensure that documentation, processes, procedures and arrangements reflect those requirements. Establishing the basis to achieve SHE standards as identified
- Identify emerging risks and threats pertaining to SHE, monitor changes to the risk and threat environment, develop and implement mitigations and advise on any appropriate mitigations, input to and support risk registers liaising with risk owners and Risk Managers as appropriate
- In conjunction with the Business Operations Manager, you will champion and deliver the organisational structure required to deliver an effective SHE capability, enabling the delivery of the key SHE functions, namely, safety, environment, and occupational health, whilst developing Best Available Techniques (BAT) and ALARP ways of working.
- Developing the strategy and plan to achieve ISO45001 certification similar to UKAEA's current ISO45001 certification
- Engaging with colleagues to define, develop and implement initiatives to create the safety culture elements of our organisational culture.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the SHE community to leverage expertise and knowledge and share learnings
- Develop and implement a suite of metrics and dashboards to improve monthly reporting and measure our safety culture maturity progress.
- Provide advice, guidance and reporting to the Board through the ARAC on all safety and health related matters.
- Acting as a champion to advocate, promote and leverage Safety, Health and Wellbeing investment and prioritisation in the programmes and projects.
- Networking within the Safety community such as attendance at forums, exhibitions, government and regulatory workshops etc

Experience Required: | - Knowledge and experience of occupational health & safety management systems and relevant areas of civil and criminal law implemented in complex and/or industrial environments.
- Proven experience in a senior role successfully managing and motivating a specialist team, with a track record of delivering customer focused services.
- Highly developed organisational awareness, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, persuade and communicate with people at all levels within the organisation and regulatory bodies.
- Strong proven leadership, with excellent communication, teamwork, personality and influencing skills.
