Assistant Emergency Preparedness Engineer
Purpose of the Role
To support the delivery and continuous improvement of station Emergency Preparedness arrangements, ensuring emergency response capabilities, documentation, equipment, training and exercises are maintained in accordance with station, fleet and regulatory requirements.
The role provides support to the Emergency Preparedness Engineer in the planning, coordination, administration and delivery of Emergency Preparedness activities, helping to ensure the station remains prepared to respond effectively to emergency situations.
Principal Accountabilities
Emergency Preparedness Exercises and Training
- Support the planning, preparation and delivery of Emergency Preparedness exercises, demonstrations and training activities.
- Prepare exercise documentation, briefing packs, supporting materials and training resources.
- Support exercise briefings, debriefings and learning reviews.
- Assist with the capture, tracking and close-out of actions arising from exercises and demonstrations.
- Support exercise staffing, coordination and logistical arrangements.
Emergency Preparedness Governance and Administration
- Support Emergency Preparedness meetings and governance forums through the preparation of meeting materials, collation of information, minute taking and action tracking.
- Maintain Emergency Preparedness records, documentation and management system information.
- Support the production of routine reports, updates and performance information.
- Assist with maintaining Emergency Preparedness procedures, handbooks and associated documentation.
Communications and Information Management
- Produce Emergency Preparedness communications, briefing materials and learning summaries.
- Support the maintenance of Emergency Preparedness intranet content and other information resources.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of guidance, awareness and information materials.
- Support communication of lessons learned, operating experience and improvement initiatives.
Equipment and Resource Management
- Support the management, maintenance and readiness of Emergency Preparedness equipment, facilities and resources.
- Maintain equipment inventories, records and associated documentation.
- Assist with equipment procurement and replacement activities as required.
- Support the monitoring of equipment and resource readiness arrangements.
- Undertake routine checks to support the availability and readiness of emergency response equipment and facilities.
Continuous Improvement
- Support reviews of operational experience, events and industry operating experience.
- Assist with benchmarking, assurance and improvement activities.
- Support the tracking and implementation of corrective actions and improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to activities that promote the continuous improvement of Emergency Preparedness arrangements.
- Support the review of emergency exercises, events and drills to identify learning and good practice.
Stakeholder Support
- Respond to routine Emergency Preparedness enquiries.
- Provide guidance and support based on established procedures and station arrangements.
- Work collaboratively with departments across the station to support Emergency Preparedness requirements.
- Support assurance activities, audits, inspections and regulatory engagements as required.
- Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery of Emergency Preparedness activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum HNC qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Experience of working in a regulated, industrial or operational environment.
- Knowledge or awareness of emergency planning, resilience, regulatory compliance or nuclear safety arrangements, gained through experience in a regulated, industrial or operational environment.
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply procedures, standards and technical documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear reports, briefs and guidance documents.
- Good organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive approach with strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Desirable
- Qualification in an Engineering, Science or Safety-related discipline.
- Experience of planning, coordinating or supporting exercises, training events or assurance activities.
- Experience of supporting continuous improvement, audits, inspections or compliance activities.
- Knowledge or awareness of emergency planning, resilience, regulatory compliance or nuclear safety arrangements.
