Role information:
We are looking for a practical and hands-on General Worker to support a busy Mechanical Engineering team.
This is a varied role supporting Mechanical Technicians, Fitters and other engineering teams with maintenance, construction, installation and improvement projects.
You will play an important part in maintaining existing facilities and supporting the delivery of new installations and engineering projects.
The role is ideal for someone with an industrial, mechanical or electrical background who enjoys practical work, takes safety seriously and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
* Support Mechanical Technicians and Fitters with a range of maintenance, construction and engineering activities.
* Keep engineering and construction areas clean, organised and free from hazards.
* Transport, maintain and carry out basic safety checks on tools, equipment and materials.
* Undertake practical construction, assembly and general engineering tasks as required.
* Assist with the maintenance, modification and improvement of mechanical components and equipment.
* Receive, move and store materials in accordance with site safety requirements and hazardous substance procedures.
* Follow Health & Safety procedures, Safe Systems of Work and Method Statements at all times.
* Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions and potential risks.
* Work with colleagues across different teams to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
* Provide information to support the accurate documentation of maintenance, installation and testing activities.
* Carry out a variety of hands-on general duties with minimal supervision.
* Take appropriate care when working around fragile, complex or specialist engineering equipment.
Qualifications/Experience
* An industrial, mechanical or electrical background.
* Practical, hands-on experience in an engineering, construction, manufacturing or similar environment.
* An understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
* Experience working to Written Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Method Statements.
* The ability to work independently and use initiative when completing assigned tasks.
* A positive approach to teamwork and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from different teams.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Competent IT and computer skills.
* A strong commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and professional working environment.
