Play a Key Role on One of the UK's Most Complex Engineering Projects
We're looking for an experienced Technical Lead Engineer (Welding) to join a major infrastructure project in Somerset. This is a high-impact, site-based role where you'll be at the forefront of resolving complex engineering challenges and ensuring technical excellence across construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
You'll operate within a multidisciplinary technical team, driving resolution of critical design and site issues while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and engineering integrity.
🔍 The Role
- Lead and support resolution of complex, cross-discipline engineering challenges
- Provide technical oversight on design changes, including Nuclear Safety Category 2 & 3 changes
- Prepare and review technical justifications, assessments, and decision documentation
- Engage with construction teams, designers, and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery
- Safeguard the integrity of the safety case and apply ALARP principles throughout
- Support innovation and continuous improvement across engineering delivery
- Act as a key technical interface across multiple project stakeholders
✅ What We're Looking For
Essential:
- IWE / EWE accreditation
- Strong understanding of welding codes and standards (e.g. RCC-M)
- Proven experience applying welding standards on complex, large-scale projects
- Degree-qualified in Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience working in site-based engineering roles
- Strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving capability
- Ability to interpret complex technical information and communicate effectively
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
- Experience within nuclear or other highly regulated industries
- Knowledge of safety cases and nuclear safety categorisation
- MSc in Welding Engineering
- Familiarity with EPR design or large-scale infrastructure programmes
