Location: Aztec West, Bristol
Days on Site: 1-2 per week, with some travel to Bridgwater as needed

The Role
The Performance Info Engineer builds reliable ingestion, transformation, and loading routines that support the organisation's analytics platform. They create high‑quality, scalable data pipelines based on designs from the Data Architect and requirements from the Performance Analyst.
They prepare and aggregate data to support visualisation and insights that inform decisions on safety, quality, time, and cost. They also develop, test, document, and deploy data products, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and data governance.
The role requires strong data engineering skills, clear communication of technical decisions, and proficiency in CI/CD methods to deliver solutions efficiently and reliably.
Principal Accountabilities
- Use agile delivery methodologies by leveraging Azure DevOps to structure and manage user stories, tasks, dependencies, and issues, adjusting work practices to align with the team's delivery framework.
- Understands the high-level architecture and its alignment to key business objectives, ensuring data products are designed to monitor project safety, quality, time, and cost.
- Reviews and interprets requirements and functional designs to produce accurate, scalable, and maintainable technical for data products.
- Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems.
- Document source-to-target mappings and transformation logic.
- Re-engineer manual data flows to enable scaling, automation, and repeatable use.
- Support the build and operation of data streaming and batch processing systems.
- Write ETL/ELT (extract, transform, load) scripts and code to ensure data pipelines perform optimally and reliably.
- Develop business intelligence datasets and semantic models that can be reused across reporting and analytics.
- Build accessible, high-quality data for analysis, ensuring alignment with data standards and architectural principles.

- Communicating between the technical and non-technical involves conveying information using the most effective medium and language for the audience.
- Produce insight through examining, interpreting and analysing data to help make informed decisions.
- Design, build and test data products based on feeds from multiple systems, using a range of different storage technologies, access methods or both.
- Deliver data solutions in accordance with agreed organisational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable, secure, and future proof.
- Data modelling involves producing visual representations of information systems to communicate the relationship between different data types and structures.
- Use metadata repositories to complete complex tasks such as data and systems integration impact analysis and lineage assessment.
- Problem management involves anticipating and identifying problems in systems, processes or services, and ensuring appropriate solutions are implemented.
- Design, code, test, correct and document simple programs or scripts under the direction of others and contribute to more complex engineering tasks with minimal guidance.
- Understand the core technical concepts related to the role, and apply them with independently in most situations, seeking guidance only for complex or novel challenges.
- Testing to ensure that requirements have been fully met by using appropriate tools and techniques to verify that a product or service works as intended, including performance and security considerations.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of data ethics, legal, security and data privacy obligations. E.g. GDPR, Export Controls and Intellectual Property requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree level or equivalent in a related subject or business relevant subject.
- Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methods aligned to agile software engineering practices, for example Azure DevOps release pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
- Significant experience of programming using structured query languages, for example SQL on platforms such as Databricks SQL, with the ability to design complex queries and optimise performance.
- Experience of programming using Object Orientated or Functional Languages, for example Python or Scala.
- Experience of programming using statistical languages, for example R, where appropriate to analytical or data transformation workloads.
Desirable
- Professional education and/or qualification in Software Engineering.
- Professional education and/or qualification in Information Analysis.
- Working experience in Nuclear, Information Intensive and/or safety critical industries or other regulated, complex delivery environments.
