Role Overview

This role sits within a multidisciplinary engineering team, supporting the delivery of projects from early design stages through to commissioning and operational support. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to technical studies, design development, and problem-solving across a range of highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support mechanical engineering studies across all project phases (FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning).
  • Develop and review technical documentation such as engineering notes, substantiation reports, process diagrams, layouts, and specification packages.
  • Assist in designing mechanical systems and processes, including mechanical handling, transfer systems, powder handling operations, and glovebox-based technologies.
  • Evaluate mechanical solutions considering manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and eventual decommissioning.
  • Review supplier documentation and coordinate with contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in hazard identification and technical risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure technical integrity and safe delivery of work packages.

Preferred Background & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Approximately 4+ years' experience in a mechanical engineering role (graduate/assistant level or above).
  • Experience in design development, technical studies, and engineering reviews within nuclear or other regulated sectors.
  • Understanding of mechanical handling systems, powder technologies, or complex mechanical processes.
  • Experience supporting or monitoring contractors in regulated environments.
  • Previous involvement in projects for major UK regulated sites (desirable).
  • Working toward professional registration (e.g., IMechE).
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, UK Security Clearance (SC).
