Play Your Part in Building the Future of UK Energy

Are you a mechanically minded engineering professional with experience in welding, fabrication, or NDT within highly regulated industries? Do you want to apply your technical expertise to one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects - helping deliver a safe, efficient, and world-class nuclear power station?

We're seeking a Field Engineer / Welding Inspector to join the growing site team at Hinkley Point C, playing a key role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and nuclear safety across a variety of complex engineering works.

The Opportunity

As a Field Engineer / Welding Inspector, you'll take on a pivotal quality assurance role - performing inspections and surveillance to confirm that all construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, and quality standards.

You'll be the technical eyes and ears of the project, supporting the delivery of major works across areas such as:

  • Pipework and pressure systems
  • Steelwork and mechanical installations
  • Fabrication, welding, and NDT processes

You'll liaise closely with construction, quality, and contractor teams to identify and resolve issues, maintain compliance with standards such as BS EN, ASME, and RCC-M, and ensure that every weld, joint, and structure meets the uncompromising demands of a nuclear-grade installation.

This is a hands-off, inspection-based position ideal for individuals who enjoy technical oversight, process assurance, and working in a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance and inspections on welding and mechanical construction activities.
  • Ensure works comply with specifications, design codes, and quality standards.
  • Identify, report, and help resolve non-conformances (NCRs) and deviations.
  • Support quality documentation processes including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
  • Collaborate across site teams to uphold quality and safety expectations.
  • Provide input into continuous improvement and lessons learned across project phases.

About You

You'll bring strong technical and quality assurance experience within mechanical, fabrication, or welding disciplines, ideally from nuclear, petrochemical, or power generation sectors.

Essential experience:

  • Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Welding, or Materials (degree, HND, or equivalent).
  • Sound understanding of welding, metallurgy, and NDT
  • Working knowledge of British & European standards and relevant codes (RCC-M, ASME, BS EN).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and verify construction drawings and inspection records.
  • Experience conducting or supporting QA/QC and inspection activities on major engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Desirable qualifications:

  • CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 Welding Inspector certification.
  • PCN or equivalent NDT qualification.
  • Previous experience on nuclear or large-scale power generation
  • Familiarity with pressure systems and structural steel fabrication.

What's In It For You

  • Opportunity to contribute to the UK's most complex and high-profile clean energy project.
  • Work alongside some of the most skilled professionals in the industry.
  • Gain exposure to cutting-edge construction and engineering methods.
  • Develop your career within one of the world's most demanding project environments.
  • Competitive day rate and long-term contract potential.

About the Project

Hinkley Point C will deliver 3.3GW of low-carbon electricity - enough to power around six million homes. With an operating life of over 60 years, it represents a cornerstone in the UK's net-zero strategy.

This is your chance to be part of something truly historic - building a sustainable energy legacy for future generations.
