Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated EHS Specialist to join our team at the Newcastle Factory's Controls and Protection Panel Building Facility. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust environmental, health, and safety programs tailored to the unique demands of panel assembly and manufacturing. You will ensure compliance with UK regulations (e.g., HSE guidelines, COSHH, PUWER), clients standards, and industry best practices, while promoting a proactive safety culture. This position plays a critical role in mitigating risks associated with electrical assembly, heavy machinery operation and ergonomic challenges in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identifications, and audits specific to panel building processes, including electrical wiring, testing, and assembly lines, to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor EHS policies, procedures, and training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, focusing on areas like lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of electrical components.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence, ensuring timely reporting to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions monitoring, and sustainability initiatives related to materials used in panel construction (e.g., metals, insulators, and coatings).
  • Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and management to integrate EHS considerations into facility design, equipment installation, and process improvements.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and coordination for scenarios such as electrical fires, chemical spills, or machinery malfunctions.
  • Track and report EHS metrics (e.g., injury rates, audit findings) using digital tools and dashboards; drive continuous improvement through data analysis and benchmarking.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standards, supporting certification audits.
  • Promote employee engagement through safety committees, awareness campaigns, and toolbox talks tailored to the panel building workforce.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities (e.g., Health and Safety Executive), suppliers, and auditors, to maintain compliance and foster best practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH membership, or equivalent; additional qualifications in electrical safety are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS roles within manufacturing, preferably in electrical assembly, energy, or industrial panel building environments.
  • Proven knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and risk management frameworks.
  • Experience with EHS management systems and tools (e.g., incident tracking software, audit platforms).
  • Ability to work on-site at the Newcastle Factory.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and implement practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train diverse teams, influence stakeholders, and report findings effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS-specific software
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to fostering a zero-harm culture.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing production demands.
