Job Title: HIU Technician
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 months (temporary), with potential for permanent placement
Pay Rate: £45,636 - £57,937 (dependent on skills/experience)
- Overtime and call-out fees paid additionally
Working Hours: 37 hours/week
- Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:00
- On Call rota: 1 week in 4
Work Location: Home based covering multiple site- within a travel distance to Scotswood
Role Overview
The HIU Technician will:
- Attend and resolve HIU breakdowns, repairs, and leaks
- Occasionally install/replace HIUs beyond economical repair
- Conduct visual checks in the Energy Centre and report faults
- Support other engineers with double-handed work
- Assist with Ground Source Heat Pump maintenance (hydraulic/wet side only)
Responsibilities
- HIU installation, servicing, breakdowns, upgrades, commissioning
- General plumbing and heating (HVAC)
- Accurate reporting and compliance with Health & Safety standards
- Meeting KPIs and supporting cross-functional teams
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
- NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in plumbing/heating/mechanical
- Valid UK Driving Licence
- Fault-finding experience on domestic heating systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- IT proficiency
- HIU and District Heating Network (DHN) experience
- Domestic gas boiler experience (Gas Safe registered)
- Basic electrical knowledge
- Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Contractor Safety Engagement (CSE)
