Senior Electrical Services Engineer
Responsible for providing engineering support and capability to the Power Distribution Group. To enable successful delivery of operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Culham site power supply infrastructure and low voltage control systems, ensuring compliance with current legislation and codes of practice.
To take full ownership of medium work packages associated with complex LV electrical equipment, complex installation / modification tasks, and technical studies to the LV primary level, including preparation of documentation from design concept to installation and operation.
The job holder shall be expected to be at a competency needed to authorise and supervise work on electrical systems.
Accountabilities:
* Design, build, commissioning and testing of industrial/fusion/commercial plant at a LV level, including UPS, generators, and automatic change-over systems.
* Take full ownership of relevant work packages ensuring all technical criteria are satisfied and that work can be carried out in a safe and cost-effective manner.
* Take responsibility for design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of assigned electrical systems.
* Manage supplier requirements including review and approval of supplier documentation, and ensure costs are controlled within Group budgetary constraints.
* Act as Project Engineer for projects within and beyond the Group and Unit.
* Ensuring compliance with current legislation and codes of practice; delivering on electrical distribution and associated projects safely and effectively, identifying and implementing improvements.
* Technical Expert providing advice on fault finding, enhancements, problem solving on equipment within their expertise.
* Provide assurance by calculation, analysis and review of existing electrical switchgear and cabling via software and basic first principles.
* Preparation of engineering procedures, risk assessments, method statements and local rules in support of the Power Distribution Group's requirements.
* To manage a project and electrical staff (up to level 5), agency supplied workers (ASW's) and external contractors, where necessary, within the project to support to other UKAEA facilities as engineering resource in projects.
* The job holder may be required to coordinate the training of Staff on plant and equipment within their expertise.
* The job holder may be required to support with the training and development of electrician apprentices and will be expected to provide coaching/mentoring.
Specific Qualifications/Experience:
Essential:
* Bachelor's degree or HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
* Extensive experience obtained following award of the qualification, in an electrical engineering role in an industrial hazardous or harsh environment and professional experience which demonstrates an ability to work at this level.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Building services and LV distribution networks.
* Experience of preparing safety documentation including risk assessments, method statements and using a formal permit system for work on complex, hazardous electrical plant.
* Experience of issuing electrical isolations on Low Voltage systems, including racking out of air circuit breakers.
Desirable:
* Preferably the job holder would have previously been an authorised person.
