This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a megaproject that will define the UK's energy landscape for decades to come, working alongside some of the best engineers and contractors in the industry.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Field Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring construction and installation activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with engineering specifications and procedures.
This is a non-manual, hands-off position focused on observation, verification, and reporting - ideal for candidates who want to develop their expertise within nuclear new build while gaining exposure to world-class engineering standards and processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting field surveillance on mechanical installations, including pipework, pumps, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, turbines, and HVAC systems.
- Verifying adherence to specifications and approved processes across a wide range of mechanical systems.
- Performing alignment checks, torque control, and joint integrity inspections.
- Supporting QA/QC activities, punchlist reviews, and documentation management.
- Completing reports and distributing findings to Construction and Quality teams.
- Participating in meetings with contractors, confidently communicating technical findings, and challenging when required.
- Conducting documentation checks against project specifications (BTS, BST, ISO9001, GQAS).
- Maintaining accurate and traceable records of all site surveillance activities.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We're looking for someone with a strong mechanical background and experience in field engineering or construction supervision within highly regulated environments such as nuclear, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or chemical processing plants.
You'll bring:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a mechanical or field engineering role.
- Understanding of mechanical systems installation and commissioning - including pipework, rotating equipment, pressure systems, and HVAC.
- Awareness of site processes such as NCRs, ITPs, QA/QC procedures, and punchlist closeout.
- Confident communication and interpersonal skills - able to liaise effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel.
- A collaborative approach, able to work seamlessly within construction, quality, and surveillance teams.
- Formal qualifications (e.g. HND, HNC, or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential - practical experience, sound engineering judgement, and a strong safety mindset are key.
Why Join Hinkley Point C?
- Be part of one of the UK's most important infrastructure projects, shaping the future of sustainable energy.
- Work within a high-performing, technically excellent engineering environment.
- Gain exposure to world-class construction, safety, and quality standards.
- Long-term, stable contract opportunities (24-36 months).
Collaborative team culture with opportunities for progression and development within the Nuclear New Build programme.
