Location: Hinkley Point C (HPC) site, Somerset

Duration: 12 Month Rolling

Rate: £420 p/d PAYE + 36 days annual leave // £560 p/d Umbrella

The Opportunity

Join this Nuclear New Build Energy company in their ambitious mission to construct and operate new nuclear plants in the UK, starting with Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset. The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been established to bolster on-site engineering, ensuring rapid responses to construction queries and the seamless delivery of project milestones. As a Mechanical Engineer focusing on equipment, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the project's success.

Vacancy Overview

Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, you will be responsible for reviewing and accepting engineering queries raised by the site contractor on the equipment scope across various buildings. Your role will involve interfacing with multiple disciplines and parties, including site contractors, construction teams, quality teams, and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests originating from the MEH Contractor on-site.
  • Ensuring compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations.
  • Challenging design decisions to align engineering with project strategy.
  • Coordinating support from external organizations.
  • Contributing to the resolution of open points and assessing technical risks.
  • Maintaining a strong relationship with EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
  • Reporting operationally to an Engineering Lead.

The Skills

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in equipment design, installation, and/or commissioning.
  • Applying multidisciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
  • Knowledge of construction/installation industry and Health & Safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders in a site environment.
  • Proactive, independent, and adept at reporting and escalating issues.
