Job Purpose:
EDF has an exciting opening for a Chemistry Technician at Torness Nuclear Power Station.
At EDF Energy, we're on a journey to change the way people use energy for generations to come. Producing low carbon energy is one of the things we do best. And right now, our eight existing nuclear sites generate 9,000 megawatts per year through 15 reactors, avoiding emissions of over 40m tonnes of carbon dioxide. That's the equivalent of taking about 60% of cars off our roads.
Reporting to the Torness Power Station Operations department. The core duties involve chemical sampling, analysis and reporting. This is an opportunity to work in a high performing and experienced team. The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:30 - 16:30.

As a Chemistry Technician you will be responsible for:
* Ensuring safe and efficient sampling, inspection and result reporting.
* Ensuring quality-control standards of laboratory, plant and confined space instrumentation.
* Conducting laboratory techniques such as titrations, gas/liquid chromatography, UV/VIS spectrometry and ICP emission spectrometry.
* Preparing chemical samples, standard solutions and chemical dilution tanks.
* Reporting of anomalies to Assistant Chemists to instigate actions.
* Carrying out routine sampling and analysis in line with company, environmental and safety legislation.
* Managing laboratory consumables and adhering to high chemical safety standards.
* Carrying out chemical dosing and assisting bulk chemical tanker discharges.

Knowledge and Skills:

As a minimum, entrants will be educated to National qualification standards (or equivalent). Candidates with passes in Chemistry, English and Mathematics will have an advantage. Relevant Highers (Maths and Chemistry) or appropriate industry experience also advantageous. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Candidates should also have a flexible approach and the ability to work well as part of a team. Ideally, the successful applicant would have previous laboratory experience.
