The Advanced CNC Technician position is based within the Engineering Support Group Workshop and involves the production of high precision small batch and prototype components for a range of clients including high-tech industries, research facilities and of foremost importance, nuclear fusion technology.

We are looking for a self-motivated person to fill this post that is capable of interpreting complex engineering drawings and be able to demonstrate the skills required to manufacture components to a high-level of quality workmanship.

Main responsibilities:

  • XYZ & Hurco VMC programming & operating - the job posts requires these to be run at the same time when needed for increased efficiency (Siemans & Winmax controls).
  • Mazak Quickturn & Colchester Multiturn CNC Lathe programming & operating - the job post requires these to be run at the same time when needed for increased efficiency (Mazatrol & Fanuc controls)
  • Off line programming using Mastercam - the job post requires the efficient use of this software to output CNC programmes via post processors.
  • Additionally, it is beneficial that the post holder will be able to operate conventional machine tools if required.
  • Manufacturing assessment and planning defining the most efficient production process is employed, focused on quality, cost and timely manufacturing.

Desirable Aptitudes and Experience:

  • The post holder must have completed a full engineering apprenticeship, which will be supported by a range of technical qualifications including City and Guilds, BTEC ONC, HNC certification.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a production manufacturing environment would be desirable.
  • Experienced with the use of 3D CAD/CAM for drawing interpretation and programming/post processing.
  • Proficient with multi-disciplined CNC controls for programming, tool setting and machine operating.
  • The appreciation of safe work working practises within an engineering machine shop environment.
  • To work and communicate as a part of a larger team or group.
  • Ability to carry out manufacturing tasks allocated to them with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrate personal drive with a flexible approach, attention to detail and quality within the workplace.
  • PC literate to a basic level using Microsoft word and Excel packages.
  • An excellent working knowledge of English.
