The IT division at eh UKAEA are looking for an Windows Systems Administrator.

The technology Department at the UKAEA is responsible for the design, implementation, testing, operation and maintenance of the UKAEA's site-wide IT infrastructure and systems.
A vacancy exists in the Windows System Administrator team to provide general Microsoft Server and PC system across the UKAEA. The role entails assisting in maintaining the large office-based Windows systems installation that is part of the site IT system. This includes computing desktop PCs, file server and storage infrastructure, system servers, Office 365 services, Microsoft Azure services and office computing backups.


* Managing the day-today monitoring and maintenance of UKAEA's Office PC and server base (both production and development infrastructures)
* Resolving users' or system issues PCs and servers
* Assisting with the day-to-day running of the MS Windows office-based systems
* Responding to and resolving user queries and problems
* Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs
* Assist in managing regular backup operations and verifying their completion, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
* Manage (create, change, and delete) user accounts as required
* Development and maintenance of MS Windows server installations
* Assisting managing Office 365 and other cloud-based systems


* CompTIA certifications (ITF+, A+, Network+, Security+)
* Microsoft Technology Associate (M40365, M40366, M40367)
* Microsoft 365 Fundamentals (MS-900)
* Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)

* A good working knowledge of MS Windows and Windows server systems (Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, Server 2016)
* A good working knowledge of, and experience in managing, domain controllers
* A good working knowledge of PC (Windows 10) management, troubleshooting and support
* A good understanding of networking in relation to Microsoft Windows systems
* A working knowledge of Microsoft file and print share systems

Desirable Experience

* Microsoft domain administration.
* Experience of monitoring systems (e.g. Zabbix, Nagios)
* Experience of web-page content management and development
* An understanding of basic networking technology
* An understanding of software engineering processes and best practises
* Experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in industrial plant settings
