Construction Technical Lead
Bridgwater
PAYE Contract (+ 33 days paid leave).
Up to £680.00 per day DOE
47.5 Hours per week

The Construction Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring the "Delivery" of their technical competence
to ensure the quality of the materials (welding, mechanical expertise, concrete and associated works, paint,
coatings, caulking) installed. The responsibility extends to all Surveillance related activities.
The Construction Technical Manager will report to the Head of Construction Technical. They will input into
site wide management issues and a high level of interaction and coordination with other operational members
of the Construction Delivery Group will be required. In addition to the reporting and liaising accountabilities
the Construction Technical Manager will be required to adhere to (and suggest enhancements and
improvements to) company policies, procedures and protocols for construction, procurement, health & safety
and other functions.

• Proactively communicate to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and
• timely reported.
• To work alongside Site Engineering Team and RD in the qualification of materials for inclusion in
the permanent works and to ensure their correct installation on site.
• Contribute information on specific areas to weekly and monthly reports, as well as issuing and
maintaining performance and key performance indicators.
• Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within
• Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue
communications, call meetings) to avoid an impact on the delivery of the works.
• Develop the team with a view on both current and future site activities
• Ensure that the tasks are developed to programme and that the quality is in accordance with the
company's specification and that the requirements for health, safety and environment are adhered
to.
• Provide information to assist in the management of strategic planning of site set up, construction
sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation
• Ensure that contractors and suppliers are made aware of the resource requirements to adequately
perform the works.
• Prepare and implement any necessary short term coordination programmes
• Develop and maintain an understanding of the construction activities that must be completed and
• by when to permit commissioning processes to commence
• Ability to make autonomous decisions and operate with minimal supervision
• Provide leadership by personal example

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
Essential
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop wide network and working relationships
• within EDF and the construction industry
• Results focus tempered with team centred approach
• Highly skilled in the analysis of technically demanding and detailed information and quickly identify
• the underlying issues and risks.
• Strong capacity to be future focused in identifying risks and implications. Strong communication
• skills to be able to put across complex concepts and data in a way that is readily understood and
• actionable, using a variety of media.
• Skilful in engaging others with technical issues and maintaining their interest and enthusiasm.
• Skilful in distilling knowledge and building skills in others and the capacity to be pragmatic and
• practical in the way that technical issues are addressed
• Good knowledge of large organisational, process plant and site, operations
• Ability to establish a vision and develop/implement strategy to attain it.
• Excellent knowledge of national and international HSE standards
• Excellent knowledge of CDM Regulations
• Proven track record of achieving excellent safety results on major engineering and construction
• projects

Desirable
• Significant technical experience including working within a large project environment
• Significant management experience in successfully influencing and engaging senior business
• leaders and supporting project teams
• Significant experience in creating and implementing large scale technical strategies across complex
• and high risk operations
• Strong communication skills in English required, knowledge of French will be an advantage
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Natural Science is a requirement
