Job Description

If physical testing and validation of products, components, or prototypes is where you excel, then we have the prefect role for you.

We are looking for a Test and Validation Engineer for the UKAEA working within STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) division. STEP is an ambitious programme to design and construct a prototype fusion energy plant.

Working within STEP In-Vessel Components (IVC) with the Testing and Validation Lead, the Testing and Validation Engineer will support on the following tasks.

Capture testing requirements from each component area and map these against available test facilities.

Work with component leads to develop tests plans for technology developments and prototypes.

Work with simulation and modelling analysts to determine the required experimental data and understand limitations/assumptions made.

Work with both internal and external testing facilities to book in testing time, witness testing, analyse results and disseminate testing information. This could also include performing testing if internal facilities are being used.

Work with PAIV to better understand verification and validation requirements for the SPR.

Develop high-level testing and validation plans for the next stage of the STEP project (Tranche 2)

Qualifications Required:

Engineering degree qualified - can be BEng or Meng.


Experience Required:

2+ years of experience within physical testing and validation of products, components, or prototypes. This can be within academia or industry.
Direct experience of; test planning, design of experiments, requirements capture, product lifecycle and experiment/testing analysis.

Strong use of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (or another programme related to data analysis).

Preferably can demonstrate both practical skills and written skills related to product, component or prototype testing, verification and/or validation.
