Job Description
The Environmental & Social Specialist is responsible for undertaking varied consultancy tasks of reasonable scope and complexity with some direction and guidance from more senior staff team members, including Technical Principal - Environment. The holder of this position provides broad technical knowledge in the environment and social sector and effective project management skills to support ongoing projects and business development activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. The Environmental & Social Associate will be based in ASEAN. The holder of this position will be based in either Hanoi or Jakarta office, and required to travel within of ASEAN / Pacific and contribute to the development and production of project deliverables as part of the team.The incumbent will role model SMEC values, ethics and code of conduct and all aspects of this position will be carried out according to these guiding principles.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE
Has the demonstrated ability to consistently:
Succeed in a similar role with typically, 5-10 years of relevant professional experience, post-qualification
Demonstrate technical experience in professional environment, across broad technical areas
Independently use basic theoretical knowledge of scientific principles to analyse, interpret and conclude on standard matters or decisions
Identify risk and prepare technical reports/proposals for small to medium projects
Undertake field work and key technical tasks independently across a broad range of small to medium profile projects
Monitor and manage the scope and risk of multiple varying size projects and apply business systems successfully
Plan workloads and meet deadlines within budget
Successfully and effectively manage client relationships and expectations
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Well-developed problem solving/analytical skills
Demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of relevant Australian Standards and legislation
Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, and ability to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment
Ability to work effectively across a variety of projects by applying new knowledge and learning new skills quickly and efficiently
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines
Basic to sound understanding of CRM principles
Computer literacy with proficiency in a variety of computer programs
Sound understanding, or ability to rapidly acquire a sound understanding, of SMEC's organisational capability and business systems, including how to access it using available resources
EDUCATION & FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS
Tertiary degree in Science or a related discipline
Member of relevant professional or corporate body (desirable)
