Job Description

Fleet Development Engineer
6 Month Contract
Starting mid-November

Purpose of the Job
•Using available data sources, analyse the performance of the various R&I fleets, with the view to develop and implement performance improvement measures.
•Using the available resources, develop and implement processes with a view to constantly monitor and improve the Fleet Management & Performance Group ways of working to maximise efficiency.
•Provide Technical Support in the form of performance and process advice to other areas of the business as required.
•Support the Fleet Performance & Process Manager in his role
•Development of Fleet improvements to reduce cost and enhance customer experience

Fleet Performance
•Using available data sources, analyse the performances of the various R&I fleets.
•React to short-notice anomalies in performance (incidents), by providing data, analysis and advice as required.
•Responsible for the in-service delay (SAF) attribution process
•Responsible for the production of fleet performance KPIs.
•Responsible for the production of fleet performance reports for internal and external use.
•Communicate with Asset Owners (ROSCOs) and Fleet Operators (TOCs) to ensure the needs of the customer are being met.
•From analysis of available data, identify system performance failings.
•Liaise directly with Technical Services group on system performance issues.
•Determine Technical Services group priorities based on impact / benefit to fleet performance.
•Responsible for the translation of system performance failings into tangible improvement plans with supporting business cases.
•Responsible for the development, implementation and documentation of performance improvement measures.
•Develop and monitor approved improvement opportunities to clearly show the impact on fleet performance during embodiment.

•Constantly monitor and analyse the efficiency of the Fleet Management and Performance Group ways of working.
•Using available data, produce Fleet Management & Performance MDIs
•Ensure the FMP Group governance strategies are current and efficient.
•Identify, develop, implement and document process improvement measures within the group.
•Communicate with Departmental Managers to ensure processes and activities etc., meet the required output.
•Strive to implement innovative processes to support immediate business needs

Technical Support
•Provide technical support to other departments in the FMP Group in regard to Performance and Process as required.
•Provide technical support to other areas of the business in regard to Performance and Process as required.

Fleet Development
•Develop fleet improvements to reduce level 1-4 and L5 Overhaul LCC
•Work with the Operator/ROSCO to determine and evaluate Fleet improvement initiatives
•Develop supporting business case proposals to support improvement initiatives.
•Leverage the operational and functional capability within the business to enhance the service offering to the Customer
•Working with the Maintenance Development and Technical Services teams fully optimise the maintenance strategy for the R&I Fleets using standard methods and tools eg Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).

•Attend and contribute to Group, Department and Project meetings, team briefs etc. as required.
•Promote continuous improvement culture within the Fleet Management & Performance Group.
•Improve the Fleet Management & Performance Group ways of working to maximise efficiency.
•Act in a safe and professional manner at all times, both on site and when representing Alstom at external suppliers or customers locations.
•Comply fully with the clients People Management procedures
•Comply fully with the business Environmental, Quality and Health and Safety policies.
•Ensure work is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and relevant client Procedures

Educational Requirements
•HNC / HND / Degree level education in Data Analysis / Mathematics / other engineering discipline or equivalent experience

Desired Knowledge / Experience
•Rolling stock operations/maintenance.
•Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)
•Performance improvement and reliability growth methods
•Problem solving tools e.g.- 8D, DMAIC, 6 Sigma
•Project management (or technical project management).
•Strong & confident communication and interpersonal skills
