In order to facilitate grid connections required due to increased generation from new windfarms, Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) are undertaking significant expansion works to existing substations.
Individual projects are up to three years in duration and cover all aspects of civils and substation electrical works, to provide the required connection point to the national grid.
Typically contracts will be awarded in three separate workstreams:
Enabling - Primarily earthworks, drainage, fencing, platform construction.
Civils - Construction of in-situ bases for electrical plant including ducting and earthing provision.
Balance of Plant -Installation and commissioning of electrical plant and equipment to enable final connection.
Earthworks excavation 200,000m3
Concrete placement - 650m3
Drainage/Ducting - 4500m
Fencing (Temp and permanent) - 1650m
Installation of electrical plant and switchgear ranging from transformers to post insulators
Associated connection and cabling
Competencies and Experience
You should ideally demonstrate skills in both major civils contracts and electrical/plant installation.
You should be able to safely and efficiently co-ordinate several contractors working on site at any one time.
You should be familiar with large earthworks contracts and working in a sensitive environmental location.
You should possess a thorough knowledge of current health and safety, and environmental requirements, in particular the application of CDM Regulations 2015.
You should have a minimum of five years management experience.
Minimum competency is HNC or above in relevant civil or electrical discipline.
You must hold a clean driving licence, first aid certification and a five-day site management safety training scheme certification (SMSTS).
Temporary works experience would be preferential but not essential.
