Job Purpose Statement

To assist members of the Delivery Team in the Project Management and Supervision of Construction Works for the construction of Transmission (132kV and above) Substations and Networks. Providing support to Unit Managers, Project Managers & Construction Staff. Coordination with the engineering dept and other departments which interface with Delivery, site supervision and preparation of project documentation.

Accountability Statements

Responsible for supervising work packages (under the supervision of the UM/LCM) of projects to deliver to specification, programme, within contract price and in accordance with SP Energy Networks requirements.

•Support the UM/PM to provide accurate expenditure forecasts for work packages of projects. Manage and report on expenditures using company's financial tools.

•Support multi-disciplined project teams to deliver work packages of projects

•Resolve ad-hoc site issues but have the ability to review and escalate issues where required

•Communicate effectively with all affected parties.

•Perform all duties with and promote internally and externally a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental compliance and continuous improvement

•Develop new processes that will help the construction team deliver the construction phase

•Monitor the process being implemented at a site level by the construction team keeping accurate records of areas and personnel requiring improvement.

•Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets and resources forecasts for sections of projects.

•Review substation drawings and specifications for construction/procurement

•Apply current legislation, policies and operational requirements

•Tender assessment of services, support to project management on the assessment of bids.

•Work to, maintain and where possible improve Quality Assurance systems.


-HNC/HND qualified in an Engineering discipline

- Experience of transmission electrical projects or works (desirable).

- Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.

- Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice.

- Flexible and target oriented

- Proven ability to work in a team environment.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

- HNC / HND in an engineering discipline

- Skills in use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Document management and Programme management packages

- Contract Management (FIDIC, NEC etc.)

- Financial aspects of projects (tender docs, budgets, BOQ's etc.)

- Knowledge on transmission infrastructures

- Experience of transmission or distribution network projects

-Able to make balanced decisions, taking into account all possible information available, able to consult with others when applicable and anticipate/recognise possible outcomes.
