Royal London has recently been recognised as the 19th best place to work in the UK. To find out more about what it’s like to work at Royal London, we interviewed Janice Bloggs, Compliance Analyst.
What’s a Compliance Analyst?
“In a nutshell, my main focus as Compliance Analyst is to coordinate our activity to make sure it complies with all government regulations. Ours is a heavily regulated sector and following the right directives it vital to ensure we keep our customers happy!”
So, what does a day in the life of a Compliance Analyst look like?
“Working with the Head of Compliance, I get to do a variety of things. In such a highly regulated industry, we always have new challenges to deal with, so no two days are the same! That’s something that I love about working here”.
“I kick off every day with a review meeting with the Compliance Team, where we plan our tasks for the day. I’m also responsible for mentoring and managing two Associates, so part of my day will involve ensuring that they are happy and progressing with their tasks”.
“I also often attend meetings to answer compliance questions from the business or work on any internal regulations that are being developed. Most of my day is focused on giving advice regarding the regulations that our company has to abide to, so that usually means that I get to talk and deal with people from all different areas of the business – and for me, that’s what makes it so interesting!”
Why did you choose a career with Royal London?
“I chose Royal London because during the interview process, I got a sense that employees really live and breathe what we call the ‘Sprit of Royal London’, which is basically our core values: empowerment, trust, collaboration and achievement. Luckily, I was right! It’s great to make a difference to the lives of so many customers. With my work, I feel I help all our policyholders by making sure we operate in a safe and compliant environment where their investment is in safe hands.”
What is one thing your love about your role?
“I’d have to say ‘having the opportunity to manage and grow a team’. All Royal London employees get a detailed career plan when they join, so it is my responsibility to make sure they’re on track with this. It’s so rewarding to be able to give your team the support they need, and then watch them grow in confidence. I can’t wait for the day that one of my team starts hiring!”
