NG Bailey opens door to top careers
Opportunities for career progression and on-going skills development were naturally top considerations when Lewis Wigginton began his apprenticeship with NG Bailey.
That was almost 13 years ago. Lewis, from Reading, is now a mechanical supervisor with the NG Bailey Engineering division, heading a team of 16 operatives, from first year apprentices to senior craftsmen. He enjoys the experience of managing a team of people who are all at different stages of their careers and the varied challenges every day on site brings.
My role is about using different techniques and problem solving, not just using my knowledge but also tapping in to the knowledge of other operatives,he says. You are always learning something new.
As the UK’s largest independent engineering, IT and facilities services business, NG Bailey puts its 2,500 people firmly at the heart of the organisation, and is recognised for one of the industry’s foremost apprenticeship schemes. The company invests more than £3 million a year in training and development programmes as a whole. Annually, more than 800 employees go through a range of leadership courses, aimed at improving management and leadership skills at all levels of the company.
Lewis says his apprenticeship gave him an excellent start to his career, combining specialist training at NG Bailey’s own facility with experience out on site and college work. He continues to regularly update his knowledge and practical skills through courses facilitated and paid for by the company, as well as hands-on workshops led by experts in their field.
