Ben Goldrick "I've been raising money for MIND in memory of my friend"

I’m Ben and I’m a Trainee Construction Recruitment Consultant based in the Altrincham office.  I joined Rullion earlier this year - my first job in recruitment - and it’s safe to say I’m loving my Rullion experience. No two days are the same, and I’m constantly learning and developing, with my confidence and people-skills improving considerably. Not only that, Rullion helps me #UnlockMyPotential by offering support beyond the 9-5, providing a platform for me to raise awareness for a cause close to my heart.

This month, I’ll be climbing Snowdon to raise funds for MIND, in memory of my friend, Jack. We lost Jack to suicide on Easter Sunday in 2015. Nobody knew Jack was suffering, as he bravely smiled through his pain.

I’m raising funds because Jack’s case is not unusual. A staggering 78% of suicides in the UK are by men, and it’s the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45. Despite this, not enough people are talking about it. It’s important we continue to remove the stigma and raise awareness for mental health, in the hope that both men and women feel encouraged to speak out about their own anxieties.

Losing Jack has had a huge impact on me personally, with raising awareness for mental health becoming something I’m incredibly passionate about. Earlier this year, I ran the Manchester 10K, raising over £500 for MIND, and my friends and I are hoping to raise over £1500 when we climb Snowdon.
